Major milestones over the full project duration
A bioinformatic system for data sharing and gene annotation is operative
The first datasets of cancer-oriented screenings from the Consortium are generated
(100 datasets) and shared; preliminary version of molecular signatures for metastasis
Assembly of the initial ranked list of genes of poorly known function potentially
involved in cancer progression and metastasis, to instruct the FL-cDNA and siRNA
clone collection projects
A first lot of the clone collections is assembled (cDNA and siRNA vectors): (i)
batch of ~40 cancer-related FL-cDNAs, Gateway-cloned and verified; (ii) batch of
~900 siRNA clones targeting 300 candidate cancer genes
Functional and interaction screenings are set-up for high-throughput analysis
Assays for diagnostic validation are set-up and tumour samples dedicated to this
task are selected
Clone collections are mostly completed
First batch of results from the in vitro functional and interaction assays and from
the validation activities
Functional and interaction assays mostly completed in vitro, first preliminary results
on in vivo analysis
Preliminary diagnostic validation completed, diagnostic gene sets can be selected
for exploitation and dissemination as diagnostic tools
New molecular targets for anticancer therapy are defined through the complete functional
characterization pipeline, partners are identified for exploitation and translation
of the results
Diagnostic gene sets are widely validated and disseminated across European cancer
centers
